Terrace celebrates Canada Day with community spirit

Hundreds of people breakfasted at the Firefighters breakfast in Terrace on Canada day, July 1.

Local residents came together in full force on Canada Day to celebrate with a blend of community spirit, generosity, and fun-filled activities.

The day kicked off with the highly anticipated firefighters breakfast at the Terrace firehall, drawing in hundreds of eager attendees.

The event hosted by the B.C. Professional Fire Fighters' Burn Fund not only satisfied hungry guests but also served a greater purpose by raising more than $6,900 for the association's burn fund.

Doing the cooking, serving and collecting money were Terrace firefighters, members of the Thornhill Volunteer Fire Department, provincial sheriffs, the RCMP, Terrace Search and Rescue, BC Ambulance and Terrace mayor Sean Bujtas.

Providing music was the Terrace Community Band under the direction of Geoff Parr.

Following the breakfast, festivities continued at the Heritage Park Museum from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. where families enjoyed a variety of activities including a silent auction.

Children immersed themselves in fun games and creative face painting, while local organizations such as Skeena Diversity, Volunteer Terrace, people from the Kitselas Canyon tour group, Terrace Public Library and more set up engaging stalls.

The atmosphere was further animated by music from Dr. Fishy, providing a lively backdrop to the day's events. Museum staffers were kept busy distributing slices of a Canada Day birthday cake.
